“Bash to the Future” – Where we’re taking your Linux systems to the next level, 1.21 gigawatts at a time.

  • Project Title: Linux Infrastructure Optimization and Automation
  • Client: Healthcare (Confidential)
  • My Role: Senior Systems Engineer
  • Technologies Used: RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), Ubuntu, Citrix VDI, SCCM, Cisco ISE, Epic EMR, Meditech, Crowdstrike Security, Powershell, Bash scripting.

Objective: Enhance and optimize the Linux-based infrastructure within the Health System to improve system stability, security, and operational efficiency. The project aimed to automate routine tasks and ensure seamless integration with existing healthcare applications and services.

  •

Challenges Overcome: One of the primary challenges was the integration of Linux systems with a wide range of healthcare applications, including Epic EMR and Meditech. Another challenge was ensuring that the automation scripts were reliable and secure, particularly in a healthcare environment where data integrity and compliance are critical. The project also required troubleshooting and refining the Citrix VDI deployments to work seamlessly with the Linux systems.

Automation Implemented: Developed and implemented automation scripts using Powershell and Bash to streamline various system maintenance tasks, such as patch management, user provisioning, and system monitoring. This significantly reduced manual intervention and the risk of human error, leading to more consistent system performance.

Results: The optimization of the Linux infrastructure led to a marked improvement in system uptime and reliability. The automation of routine tasks reduced the workload on IT staff, allowing them to focus on more strategic initiatives. The successful integration of Linux systems with critical healthcare applications enhanced the overall efficiency of the health system’s operations.

"The improvements to our Linux infrastructure have been transformative. The automation scripts not only save us time but also ensure that our systems are more secure and reliable. We couldn't be happier with the results."
